The definition of plagiarism, its importance both from a moral aspect and upon its impact upon research quality, and how it can be avoided.

It will be argued that the only way to avoid both negatives is through the process of writing which needs to be divorced from reading, or even consulting the original source until the bulk of writing has been completed.

General note taking and writing advice
|
General advice will be given including, the parts of a thesis, common student mistakes, and a revision of the process of writing as mentioned in the previous lesson.

The citation of sources and authors and integrating their voice into your text.
|
Attention will also be given to the citation of sources that the student has not read, internet sources, presentations, lectures and hearsay. American Psychological Association manual of Style

Management of Citations
|
Students will be introduced to three methods of citation management: Using Google scholar, Microsoft Word, and Zotero a free open source citation management tool.

Using AI to summarise and help with research
|
Students will be introduced to ways in which they may be able to use AI to help with their Academic writing
|
|
第7回
|
Using MS Word
|
Basic formatting of (indented not block) paragraphs, page numbering, auto augmented figure captioning, heading styles and automatic index creation.

|
第8回
|
Putting it all together
|
Students will be required to implement the skills and knowledge acquired in the previous lectures in a final evaluated summary writing session in place of a final exam.
