授業の目的と概要
In the content industry and intellectual property course, students will get an overview of the media industry, including video games, animation, and movies, and will aim to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for obtaining rights, managing the intellectual property, and running a business while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual property handled there. First, students will learn the outline of intellectual property laws necessary for the media industry. After that, students will receive an explanation of the overall picture of the content industry, and the intellectual property necessary for running a business in each individual industry, such as the music industry, the movie industry, and the game industry.

Students will acquire a wide range of knowledge about intellectual property and develop the ability to consider social issues related to intellectual property.

This course will be taught by a practitioner instructor with experience as an executive officer at a corporation.
In the content industry and intellectual property course, students will get an overview of the media industry, including video games, animation, and movies, and will aim to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for rights acquisition, management, and business operations while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual property handled there. First, students will learn an overview of the intellectual property laws necessary for the media industry. After that, students will receive an explanation of the overall picture of the content industry and the intellectual property necessary for business operations in individual industries such as the music industry, film industry, and game industry.

第1回 Guidance, works and authors Learn about the lecture outline, works and copyrights. Understand works made for hire. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第2回 Legal term: moral rights After learning basic legal terminology, learn about moral rights of authors. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第3回 Copyright and exceptions Know copyright and its exceptions.
Physical reproduction and presentation.
Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第4回 Copyright and Relief In copyright law, learn about contributions.
Learn about citations.
Learn about criminal and civil remedies.
Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第5回 Term of protection and the public domain After learning the basics of the protection period, students will understand the 1953 issue regarding the protection period in Japan. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第6回 Read the Shane decision Read the verdict in the case where Paramount Pictures sued a low-cost DVD distributor. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第7回 JASRAC and Music Copyright Let's think about the JASRAC incident. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第8回 Read the JASRAC case ruling Read the JASRAC case ruling and write an essay. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第9回 Comprehensive exercises based on the content of the classes from weeks 1 to 8 Using the results of previous learning, students will conduct comprehensive exercises using specific cases. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第10回 Music Industry and Intellectual Property This course will discuss the roles of copyright management companies and music publishers in music copyright management, and also explain the work of music production companies. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第11回 Music search and rights processing practices Based on the learning in the 10th week, students will practice searching for music and rights processing practices (procedures, contract writing, etc.). Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第12回 Photography and Copyright Law (Part 1) This book focuses on photographic works and examines their relationship with copyright law and other intellectual property laws. In the first half, it examines the process by which photographic works themselves are created and confirms the facts that lead to the creation of copyrighted works. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第13回 Photography and Copyright Law (Part 2) Following on from the previous article, this article will focus on photographic works. This time, we will consider copyright processing and other aspects in accordance with each factual situation discussed in the previous article, including practical procedures. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第14回 Broadcast Programs and Copyright Law This course will provide an understanding and practice of copyright management for each type of broadcast program. It will also explain the latest amendments to the Copyright Act regarding simultaneous transmission of broadcast programs. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
第15回 Program Protection and Intellectual Property We will focus on the program and discuss its relationship with intellectual property law. We will also conduct exercises on program outsourcing contracts, etc. Participants will spend one hour on preparation study and one hour on review, referring to the distributed lecture materials.
