授業の目的と概要
Japan is surrounded by the ocean, and offshore wind and nuclear power generation projects, as well as optical cable systems that are important for the Internet, are exposed to the threat of submarine geohazards from the coast to the deep sea. In order to reduce this risk, it is necessary to clarify the actual situation, scale, frequency, and distribution of submarine geohazards, which will lead to risk assessments. In this lecture, external experts from Japan and overseas will be included in the lecture, and all participants will think about an overview of seabed geological risks and how to evaluate them. This lecture was conducted in collaboration with the Science Council of Japan's ``Subcommittee on Offshore Wind Power Development to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals'' and the International Union of Geological Sciences' ``Undersea Geohazards Task Group,'' and will be based on the latest information from Japan and abroad. Topics covered.

This subject is taught by a faculty member who is a professional engineer (applied science) with practical experience in marine and terrestrial geological surveys, and uses his experience to develop lectures that meet social needs.

Please note that students who are taking the advanced course "Special Lecture on Submarine Geological Risks" cannot take this course.
授業の到達目標
Able to understand and explain issues related to marine geology overseas.
Able to ask and answer questions in English about issues related to marine geology overseas.

This subject is an elective subject in the Department of Earth System Science and corresponds to DP1-1 of the Faculty of Science's diploma policy, which is also shown on the curriculum map.
授業計画
【全体】
This lecture will invite researchers from overseas who are involved in marine geohazard research online to provide an understanding of various issues related to marine geology in countries around the world.

This year's program includes an online lecture (in English) by Professor Emeritus Chris Elders of Curtin University. This person holds a degree from Oxford University and has served as a professor at Shell Oil and the University of London before assuming his current position. We ask that you speak English slowly. This lecture will be scheduled from 18:00 to 19:30 at Monday in June and July for totally 6 times.

Chris Elders completed his BSc at the University of Oxford in 1983, and PhD, also at Oxford in 1987. After that he spent four years working for Shell in the Netherlands as an Exploration Geologist working on acreage in the Southern North Sea. In 1993 he moved to Royal Holloway, part of the University of London, where he ran a successful masters programme in Petroleum Geoscience. In 2013 he joined Curtin University as Professor of Petroleum Geoscience. and is now a semi-retired Emeritus Professor.
