The principal focus of this course is to foster an aptitude for authentic technical communication in English. There will be an emphasis on developing key skills in the following areas: group work, oral presentation skills with a focus on data description, language for written and verbal communication contexts such as emails and phone conversations, describing and explaining scientific concepts, and interpersonal development such as group work, self-assessment, and peer review. Throughout the course, students will complete 12 modules covering a variety of engineering fields to strengthen their understanding and productive abilities regarding technical topics. Students can expect to spend roughly 1~2 hours per week on assignments/review outside of class.
The course is scheduled to be conducted in a classroom in accordance with university health policy but may switch to either fully online or some combination of classroom/online in response to future developments regarding COVID-19. As a result, students should be ready to take some or all of the course online should the need arise by ensuring they have a laptop and reliable access to the internet.
