The outline for each semester is as follows:
SPRING
The principal focus for the first semester is to foster an aptitude for authentic technical communication in English. There will be an emphasis on developing key skills in the following areas: group work, oral presentation skills with a focus on data description, language for written and verbal communication contexts such as emails and phone conversations, describing and explaining scientific concepts, and interpersonal development such as group work, self-assessment, and peer review. Throughout the course, students will complete 12 modules covering a variety of engineering fields to strengthen their understanding and productive abilities regarding technical topics. Students can expect to spend roughly 1~2 hours per week on assignments/review outside of class.
FALL
The principal focus of the fall semester is to foster an aptitude for using technical English communication to learn about and discuss modern issues in engineering. There will be an emphasis on developing key skills in the following areas: group work, oral presentation skills with a focus on project analysis, language used in real-world contexts such as fieldwork and online meetings, describing and explaining scientific concepts, and interpersonal development such as peer review. Throughout the course, students will complete 12 modules covering a variety of engineering fields to strengthen their productive abilities and understanding of the topics. Students can expect to spend roughly 2 hours per week on assignments/review outside of class.
