メディア授業とは,メディアを利用して遠隔方式により実施する授業の授業時数が,総授業時数の半数を超える授業をいいます。 メディア授業により取得した単位は,卒業要件として修得すべき単位のうち60単位を超えないものとされています。

This course is open to both local and international students. This course presents what is communication from various perspective; verbal, non-verbal, identity, culture and so on. Before class, you read an example of communication and make a short report at home as preparation of a lecture. After class, you read the example again and write a short report. Because all examples of communication in this course are in Japanese, you learn not only general communication but also some unique features of Japanese communication. Japanese and English will be the main languages used in class. The course presents basic knowledge of communication, how to form an interpersonal relationship in multicultural community.

At first, you will acquire the basic knowledge about communication in general and about Japanese. Then, you will understand various culture and ideas, and learn appropriate communication in various situation (especially with Japanese people). At same time, you will acquire basic knowledge and strategies related to smooth communication in multicultural community, and adjust your behavior depending situation of communication.

Students will study basic communication concepts and strategies. Students will examine several cases of miscommunication in a textbook and consider the reasons for this miscommunication. In the end of a lesson, students will form groups, and share and discuss their opinions. Students will take the assignments seriously (homework).

The evaluation considers students’ homework (the submission rate)30%, coursework assignment(the submission rate)30%, class participation10% and final examination30%. A student who misses more than two classes will need to consult their instructor. Otherwise, s/he will not be considered for grading. If you submit your homework and coursework assignment late, the evaluation of them is down by half.
