授業の目的と概要
First, students will receive general guidance on the importance of avoiding plagiarism, the fundamentals of academic writing, and standard citation styles in scholarly papers. They will also be instructed on how to locate original sources. In addition, they will engage in practical training in academic writing using AI tools (such as Scispace, Thesify, and Asta), along with reference management software like Zotero and Microsoft Word.

Furthermore, in each class session, students will summarize excerpts from books on economics and consumer behavior. I, together with a custom GPT, will provide feedback and suggested revisions. Special attention will be given to the tendency of Asian students—due to cultural-psychological factors—to organize their arguments using a “family resemblance” structure rather than the hypothesis-centered, binary-opposition structure commonly recommended in the human sciences. Students will practice linking hypothesis formulation closely with the structure of their writing and developing arguments accordingly.
授業の到達目標
As the primary objectives of this course, students will:
● become aware of common mistakes made by Asian students in academic English (such as the overuse of the word “life,” the use of male pronouns to refer to people in general, and the use of “the” instead of plural forms to express generalities), and learn how to avoid them;
● learn how to use APA citation style and attempt to formulate non-obvious, original hypotheses;
● understand the importance of organizing their thesis around clearly defined hypotheses;
● master the use of Microsoft Word to automate headings, figure and table captions, and the creation of a table of contents;
● learn how and when to use AI tools appropriately to improve thesis content, as well as recognize inappropriate uses of AI;
● use a bibliographic management tool (Zotero) to facilitate accurate and efficient citation management.
