授業の目的と概要
This course is designed for Master’s Degree level engineering students who wish to develop the professional and technical English communication skills necessary to become future management-level engineering professionals. The course aims to both solidify students’ understanding of and improve their ability to explain target content such as issues, concerns, and solutions in a manufacturing business context. The course assumes an appropriate level of preparation on the part of the student using the preparation materials and addressing assignments that are directly linked to the subsequent lessons. Through the preparation process, reading and writing skills will also be cultivated. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to learn by communicating with classmates of different cultural and/or disciplinary backgrounds. Note that the class is conducted entirely in English.

The course instructor has extensive professional and international experience in finance, accounting, and auditing at multinational firms. In addition, he has taught English for a nation-wide language school to a wide range of learners, including engineers and business professionals possessing various levels of language proficiency. Borrowing from these experiences, the instructor will implement Content and Language Integrated Learning (a dual-focused approach designed to provide students with opportunities to learn about the manufacturing industry while simultaneously acquiring relevant English expressions) as the fundamental organizing principle of the course.
