授業の目的と概要
Innovation is necessary to build a sustainable society in the 21st century. To realize innovation based on science and technology, it is necessary to protect and utilize the intellectual activities of researchers as rights. Intellectual property rights (patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, trademark rights, copyrights, etc.) play an important role in creating innovation. In this course, you will learn about these intellectual property rights.
The course will be conducted in an e-learning format, and students will be evaluated based on the submission of eight reports (submitted as email attachments to Kimura).

授業の到達目標
In addition to understanding the general overview of intellectual property, students will develop the ability to search and analyze intellectual property, and acquire the basic skills to strategically utilize intellectual property in their future activities.
授業計画
【全体】
In this course, we will provide an overview of intellectual property rights using case studies, and will also conduct exercises from a comprehensive perspective of intellectual property, such as whether there is a problem from the perspective of intellectual property (notice), whether there is legal illegality (find), and how to respond (determine) based on case studies from the real world. In addition, we will provide a detailed explanation of the patent system, introduce access to patent information, and conduct research and analysis of patent information related to the research topic of the student. Researching patent information, not just paper information, will be beneficial for the student's own research activities at graduate school. We will also consider the relationship between research ethics and intellectual property, and provide an overview of research ethics from the perspective of copyright law in particular.

第1回 Guidance
Overall view of intellectual property rights - industrial property rights 		We will explain the lecture outline and overall schedule.
We will provide an overview of industrial property rights (patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, and trademark rights) among intellectual property rights. 		Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
第2回 Copyright 1 Definition of a copyrighted work and an overview of the rights of authors. Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
第3回 Copyright 2 Moral rights, copyright, neighboring rights, and publishing rights. Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
第4回 Copyright 3 Copyright restrictions, original acquirers of intellectual property rights and authorship, citation etiquette, academic society submission guidelines and rights relationships, research notes. Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
第5回 Patent System The purpose of the patent system, the process from patent application to acquisition of rights, requirements for obtaining a patent, exceptions to loss of novelty, understanding inventions, and interpretation of the technical scope of patented inventions. 第6回 Searching and Understanding Patent Information It covers how to use patent search systems, and how to interpret and organize patent information. Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
第7回 Design System The purpose of the design system, the process from design application to acquisition of rights, requirements for design registration, and the scope of effect of the new design rights. Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
第8回 Trademark System 商標制度の目的、商標出願から権利取得までの流れ、商標登録要件、商標権の効力範囲。 Refer to the lecture materials distributed on the web and spend one hour preparing and one hour reviewing.
