授業の目的と概要
Remotely measuring certain objects by using electromagnetic wave is called “remote sensing.” In a broad sense, various measurements such as by weather radar and CT scanner can be called as remote sensing. However, it is generally defined as the sensing from satellites and aircrafts. Since the remote sensing from satellites can provide various, periodical, and global information of the Earth, it is being widely used for many purposes such as monitoring climate/environmental conditions and identifying disaster-affected areas. The aim of this lecture is to explain principles and technologies of remote sensing in various wavelength ranges such as visible, infrared, and microwave, and exercise accessing and visualizing/analyzing actual satellite observation data. Also, satellite orbital dynamics and overview of launch vehicles and satellites will be explained as the basic knowledge for the lecture. In the second half of the class, detailed lectures on the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) will be provided.
授業の到達目標
- Understand the capability of various target's state estimation by using multi-wavelength electromagnetic wave, and characteristics/advantages of space utilization such as satellite remote sensing.
- Gain an international way of thinking through learning the global concept of space utilization and Earth observation.
- Take an interest in solving social issues such as environmental destruction and natural disaster.
- Logically explain the results by properly combining and evaluating various data sources.
授業計画
【全体】
This will be an intensive course to be held during September to October period (subject to change). The course consists of lectures for satellite remote sensing (No.1-6), exercises by using actual satellite data (No. 7-9), and detailed lectures for SAR principles and the applications (No. 10-15). The actual contents and timetable are subject to change depending on the progress. This will be held as a part of cooperative class with Udayana University. The working language of the class is English. Some of the lectures will be provided remotely.
