The environment in which we humans live is determined by the circulation of heat, water and matter in the Earth's surface layer. In this lecture, an overview of the heat, water and material cycles in the Earth's surface layer, information obtained by observing and measuring these phenomena and data obtained through observation will be explained. Furthermore, as an application, analysis methods using observed meteorological and oceanographic data will be lectured, and finally, simulation studies of the oceans using numerical models will be introduced.
