The purpose of this course is to provide a comprehensive foundation in horticultural science, with a particular focus on olericulture (vegetable science) and floriculture. Through this curriculum, students will deepen their understanding of horticultural research methodologies. The course provides a structural overview by utilizing specific research cases on crops such as lotus root, Malabar spinach, lily, and camellia. By examining these examples, students will acquire both fundamental and applied knowledge in areas such as photoperiodic responses and the mechanisms of anthocyanin accumulation, thereby developing a robust academic foundation in horticultural science.

1)Cultivating Interest and Understanding Industry Significance Students will develop a strong interest in horticultural research and acquire the ability to explain the socio-economic and nutritional importance of vegetable and floriculture production.
2)Mastery of Physiological, Ecological, and Genetic Mechanisms Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the physio-ecological characteristics of horticultural crops and the regulation of gene expression. This knowledge will provide the foundation necessary for practical applications in cultivation and plant breeding.
3)Development of Specialized Expertise and Adaptability The course aims to develop professionals with a broad perspective on plant production and the production environment. Students will be trained to:
Contribute effectively to global crop production.
Possess the advanced expertise required to respond proactively to the evolving landscape of biological production.
