Bioimaging is a crucial tool in modern biological and medical research, enabling the visualization and analysis of cellular structures, biomolecules, and physiological processes in real time. This course provides an advanced understanding of bioimaging techniques, their principles, applications, and the latest developments in the field. Through lectures and practical sessions, students will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with cutting-edge imaging technologies, including fluorescence microscopy, super-resolution imaging, and live-cell imaging.

By the end of this course, students should be able to: 1. Understand the fundamental principles of bioimaging techniques and their applications in life sciences. 2. Compare and contrast various imaging modalities, including their advantages, limitations, and appropriate use cases. 3. Analyze and interpret bioimaging data using appropriate software and image analysis tools. 4. Design and execute imaging experiments tailored to specific biological questions. 5. Critically assess recent developments and research in bioimaging.

In this class, we will first explain the history and principles of microscopy. We will then give a lecture on fluorescence, which is essential for bioimaging, and explain the various fluorescence microscopy methods currently in use, including super-resolution microscopy. After a lecture on image analysis methods, we will also explain luminescence microscopy and electron microscopy.
