授業の目的と概要
Students of this course will not only obtain the know-how to conduct their research and but also understand the background, significance, and position of their research. The purpose of this course is to become available to write research proposals actually.
授業の到達目標
Students will be able to proactively choose their research topic while being mindful of contributing to the acquisition of new scientific knowledge in their own research field.
Students will be able to understand how research is conducted, select a research method appropriate to their research topic, and properly prepare a research proposal.
授業計画
【全体】
The students of this course learn the general research methodology.
Firstly, the students study "what is research?", confirm the necessity of methodology behind any research, and are aware of the correct protocols.
Secondly, the students learn the general procedure of scientific researches: to define research problem, review the literature, formulate hypotheses, design research, write research proposals, collect data, analyze data, interpret the results of analyses, and write papers.
Finally, the students write their own research proposals based on the knowledge and skilles obtained in this course.

第3回 Types of research (2) To categorize the students' own researches from the viewpoints of application, abstractness, objectives, approaches. To categorize the students' own researches and send the short reports regarding the result of the categorization.
第4回 Research process (1) The students learn the research process. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第5回 Research process (2) The students learn the research process. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第6回 Planning stage of research (1) The students learn how to define research problems as the first step of the research activity. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第7回 Planning stage of research (2) The students learn how to review the literature of their own disciplines. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第8回 Planning stage of research (3) The students learn how to write their own research proposals. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第9回 Research proposal (1) The students try to write their own research proposals. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第10回 Research proposal (2) The students try to write their own research proposals. The students write and send their own research proposals to the lecturer.
第11回 Brushing up the research proposals (1) Brushing up the reaserch proposals submitted by the students through the class discussion. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第12回 Brushing up the research proposals (2) Brushing up the reaserch proposals submitted by the students through the class discussion. preparation and review (about 4 hours)
第13回 Brushing up the research proposals (3) Brushing up the reaserch proposals submitted by the students through the class discussion. preparation and review (about 4 hours)

第15回 Wrap-up The lecturer wraps up this course. The students revise their own research proposals based on the course discussion and submit them to the lecturer.

Evaluation will be based on the reports in class and the report prepared at the end of the semester.
