授業の目的と概要
The focus of this class is recent tourism policy; however, other research topics such as immigration, foreign workers, and multicultural education are also welcome. For comparative literature studies, multiple (at least two) language abilities which may include Japanese and/or English is recommended. Using literary research and statistical data, students will practice academic writing in Japanese and/ or English.

この授業では主に近年の観光政策について扱うが、移民や外国人労働者、多文化教育などの研究分野も可能である。文献の比較研究を行うために、日本語と／または英語を含む複数（最低２つ）の言語能力を持っていることが望ましい。文献調査と統計データを用い、履修者は日本語と／または英語でアカデミック・ライティングを身につける。
授業の到達目標
Cultivating 'independent research ability,' particularly aiming to acquire the skills and competencies necessary for conference presentations and writing peer-reviewed papers.

授業計画
【全体】
As mentioned above, literature reviews and writing practice are essential. These minimum requirements are also essential to submit reports or short papers to University Journals. To write a dissertation, some of the students who utilize their own raw data need to perform field work involving questionnaires, interviews and/or participant observations in addition to the basic academic practices mentioned above. As participant observation requires more time to gain sufficient results, this class uses data collected from paper based questionnaire research and structured interviews. If students need participant observation and semi-structured interviews, individual practice to be conducted during vacations will be prepared on an individual basis. These advanced research methods will be useful when submitting academic papers to peer-reviewed Journals. This schedule is up to COVID-19.

上記のように、文献研究と執筆の訓練は必須である。これら最低限求められているものは大学紀要等のレポートや短い論文を書くために必要である。さらに上記の基礎的な学術訓練に加え、学位論文を書くためには、アンケート、インタビュー、参与観察などを通して自分自身がフィールドワークで生データを集める場合もある。参与観察は結果が出るまで時間がかかるので、この授業では紙媒体のアンケートと構造化インタビューによるデータ収集を行う。もし参与観察や半構造化インタビューが必要ならば、長期休暇中に個別に対応する。これらの応用編の研究方法は、専門的な査読誌へ投稿する際に役立つ。なお、新型コロナウイルスの状況によってはスケジュール変更もあり得る。
