The objective of this course is to enable students to understand Digital Engineering (DE) not merely as a set of design and analysis technologies, but as a strategic framework that integrates the entire product lifecycle and business planning in order to create corporate value. With the rapid advancement of ICT, digital technologies are now utilized not only in product development but also in procurement, production, logistics, sales, maintenance, recovery, and disposal. From the perspective of overall optimization, this course aims to cultivate the ability to integrate technology and market considerations, and to develop the analytical thinking and decision-making skills necessary to realize product and business value.
This course systematically examines manufacturing management from a comprehensive product lifecycle perspective, with Digital Engineering as its core foundation. Specifically, students will learn how to integrate market needs and technological seeds through the concept of Analysis-Led Design (ALD), utilizing methodologies such as QFD, TRIZ, and CAE. In addition, the course explores how products and businesses evolve through hypothesis formulation and validation under conditions of uncertainty.
The instructor brings extensive practical experience in manufacturing operations, product development, and new factory planning within industry, as well as experience in planning and implementing industry–academia–government collaboration projects at a public research institution. Drawing upon these experiences, the course integrates theory and practice through real-world cases and exercises that reflect actual managerial challenges. The course aims not only to provide technical knowledge but also to enhance students’ practical decision-making capabilities.
